What is cryptocurrency? Cryptocurrency is a digital asset designed to work as a medium of exchange using cryptography to secure the transactions, to control the creation of additional units, and to verify the transfer of assets. Bitcoin was the first decentralized digital currency, released in 2009. It was released by a pseudonymous developer (or group of developers) under the name of Satoshi Nakamoto.
